I bought this, and all the tag said was "orchid" - well, no sh*t, Sherlock, but what kind of orchid is this? I don't even know the genus, so I can't research its care. Can you help a poor newbie?

Looks like it is in the Oncidium alliance. Can't really be more specific than that.

It appears to be at least part, if not all, miltonia. I'm not sure if miltonia care differs too much from oncidium care, but thought I'd throw out my opinion.

That would be my guess too. Miltonia flowers are usually larger than an Oncidium. And the psuedo-bulbs are elongated as this one. BUT it would be difficult to be 100% certain.

Ha, Miltonia was also my guess, and I bought it because it looked like one (I do like me some Miltonia!). Thanks for that, guys!

I agree. Perhaps a Miltoncidium or something similar. They like oncidium care but they don't like to get too hot.

Someone I know (who's far more experienced than me) thinks it's a Miltonia Angela Barker. It looks very similar to mine, so I think she might be right:

Goddangit. Angela Barker and Sunset are waaaaaay too similar, haha. I have no idea.

ANYWAY, it's definitely a Miltonia. That's one step in the right direction, and more info than I had when I started this thread.
