I'd venture it's a fungus/bacterial problem. The rest of the plant appears healthy. If you wanted to swab a bit of alchohol or Regular Listerine on the spot, that might make you (and the plant) feel better.
It really has gorgeous blooms. Any chance of a closeup?

Carol, I'll look through the pics I have for a good close-up...this one was very hard to get a good of!

My plants love Listerine It keeps us all very happy

I found 2 new growths coming up yesterday so I won't have to wait too long before finding out if this deformity was a fluke or a problem with the plant...I'm keeping my fingers crossed

Hi Susanne,

It's great to know that your orchids like Listerine.
When the 'chids are happy, Mama is happy too/http://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

It's great to be online again. I'm in Florida now, and am going to be At the World of Orchids tomorrow! http://www.orchidboard.com/community...on_biggrin.gif

It's great to be online again with my orchid friends here!

Hi Susanne,

Thanks for the welcome back.
I haven't moved here - just a snowbird.

We're in Ocala for the night. Yes, the weather is wonderful. This is a 6 week vacation, and will likely be back home early May. Last time, we were away for 3 months, and my poor orchids-did they ever suffer! I had who I thought was a well-trained sitter for my 'chids, and she was paid very well, too!
On our way up, I got the idea to buy some orchids at Hausermann's, and that way they will have time to get the necessary papers. On our way home, I pick them all
up!
Brilliant idea, no?

It would be nice to see that cattleya with fully opened flower. Do you have photos for update?
