Paphiopedilum identification

Hi all.
I bought this plant today, and wanted to get an ID. On the tag, it is written ' Sabot de Vénus - Blanc' which is the french translation of Paphiopedilum White. It is in a terrestrial mix.

Secondly, i would be grateful if anyone could tell me a little more about the culture of the plant. Thank you for your help and patience.

It's obviously a spicereanum cross, based upon the colors and reflexed dorsal, but what brings the spots, I don't know.

I give my paphs bright, indirect light - more than phalaenopsis, less than cattleyas, and keep them in a very open, moisture-holding medium, in "people-comfortable" temperatures. They get fed frequently, but very sparingly - 30 ppm N every 3 days or so.

I would say leeanum, which is a old classic primary hybrid involving insigne and spicerianum.

thanks NYCorchidman and Ray... i think it is indeed Paphiopedilum Leeanum. This one seems to be very easy to take care of. i live 15 minutes from the sea and the climate is very warm all year round. from what i have read online, it needs a temperate climate to bloom, with 55F during winter nights. It hardly gets that cold in my region. will it bloom in my conditions?

Both parent species of this hybrid are very tough and vigorous growers. This hybrid inherited the same great qualities.

It does best and actually need quite a bit of cooling in the winter to be able to bloom well.

How cool is your winter average?

It might still bloom for you. You will just have to wait and see.

If you cannot give it 55F nights (and I agree, in Mauritius that is unlikely), try to give at least 8-10C difference between day and night temperature.

And yes, it is 99.9% certain that it is Paph Leeanum.
