Identification required - Oncidium Species? Female
Default Identification required - Oncidium Species?

Spike is over 2 1/2 feet tall and 8 or 9 branches. Pbulbs and leaves are large green with burgundy spots. Plant was obtained at an auction last fall. The plant to me looks like a species....any ideas??? Thanks for any suggestions.

Looks like Oncidium ampliatum; very common to find them in flower markets within China.

If you go to Social Groups and look at the OCRC orchids of china and look at Guangzhou orchid garden part 2 you will see what I mean about being common.

We are happy to have helped you.

Hi, thank you. I did that and beautiful, however the leaves on the plants in the pictures do not look the same. My plants leaves are very thick and wide, with large pbulbs. It looks like to me he ones in your pictures are thin, strappy leaves is this correct? The orchid wiz photos show part of the base of ampliatum which looks like mine.

There are many at the botanical garden; Oncidium ampliatum, Oncidium boissiense, Oncidium crispum, Oncidium Croesus, Oncidium fusceatum and about six or seven more, but yours is correct.
