Harlequin or Yu Pin Panda?
Default Harlequin or Yu Pin Panda?

Hi there. I got this NOID a while back, and it has been in bloom for AGES, so I guess that I must be doing something right...anyway, I originally thought it might be a Yu Pin panda, but after more research and looking closely at the colours in the lip and the round leaves, I think it might be a harlequin. Any thoughts? (I know it looks close to the window in the photo but this is Scotland in winter, very low light...)

'Harlequin' is a descriptive word referring to a general color pattern. 'Yu Pin Panda' is the name of a specific cross. Many crosses, including yours, could be considered a 'Harlequin' type.

Golly, Not sure if this one is actually a yu pin or not, but I think it was originally a rescue from Tesco, so go have a look. They definitely have magenta and white ones that look just like it in there on a regular basis...

The Tesco up here in Oban, Scotland has them regularly. If you're up here in this neck of the woods for a holiday or something, pop in!

There are quite a few Harlequins. I'm on the look out for another one as well, I have one with small flowers but want another with larger flowers.

You can often find NoID Harlequins in the supermarket. I've seen them in Sainsbury's or Asda lots of times (don't have a Tesco close by). Also seen them in Dobbies garden center.

As was said above though Harlequin is a name given to any of these with the dark purple splotches rather than a name of an orchid. I'm looking for a named one so hoping someone has some names ones when I go to the Malvern show. If you don't care about knowing the parentage (and really the NoID ones are just as pretty) then you should fine a nice one quite easily.

I would love to do that I was born in Arbroath
But all my family moved to England lol

I'm sure Tesco will get more stock in soon
I've got 2 24 hours stores locally near me
The Dudley store is awesome as it reduces
Orchids a lot, I recently got a £15 White Phal
Reduced to £7.50 which came in a big box also
With plant pot

Will keep my eyes peeled btw

I know the Tesco you mean. Not been in it since it was rebuilt, used to go in the old store on the same site when I lived that way, driven past the new one though.

It's not yu pin panda. The this is a harlequin. Yu Pin Panda has much, much more white space between the spots.
