So I just received this orchid as a gift from a friend. I've never had an orchid before and I'm pretty new to this. I'd like to know what kind of orchid this is please. And if anyone has tips on how to care for it. The only information that I have is that it was from Puerto Rico. It's currently indoors near a window and I've been watering it once weekly.

Hello pavli, welcome to the forum! I have to agree with Roy on this one, but it does have some of the features of an orchid plant. Particularly the spike it is producing--but the spikes terminate into another plant? It also appears to be in potting soil as opposed to being in orchid pine bark. We have members from Puerto Rico, maybe one of them will see your post and provide their opinion.

It does look nice and healthy.

Thanks for the posts. Ive been asking around about it. Some people seem to think it may be an oncidium? What do you guys think? Also it is not in potting soil, it's in a light brown material. Could be pine bark. I will try to post more pictures.

Another look. Definitely NOT an orchid of any type. It has the features of a Dracena ( happy plant) ut the lateral growths don't seem to fit.

Thinking along the same line. I've never looked at Dracaena closely but could it be a very young one?

I don't think there are any Bromeliads that produce stolons, same thought though. Or is the rhizome considered a stolon?

Not a tradesantia. Looks like aerangis biloba or some such. The monopodial but fanned leaf is what you need to look at. definitely an orchid. I'd look at some of the less common orchids.

What monopods have rhizome? Callisia Fragrans 85% sure. I take back the Tradescantia thing...
