Default [SOLVED] Iris "Neomarica gracilis" or "False orchid"

Hello !

That poor plant was abandonned in a patio, so I adopted it. In September 2012 it bloomed, turned out it was an orchid plant !
But I don't know its name/type, so I can't figure out its specific needs : this year it didn't give me any flowers .

Here in Argentina, they call it an "orquidea del dia", but that doesn't help me.

Does someone have any clues ?

Some pictures : a tall plant with long leaves and one or two thick part producing the flowers.

I think it looks more like an iris than an orchid. Similar to Cypella coelestes, but it doesn't look quite the same to me.

Definitely an Iris and not an orchid, but someone else will have to tell you which Iris and how to grow it.

I concur with an iris. And they're pretty easy to grow. Just google probably "german iris" and it will give you requirements.

Thanks for the quick answers !

If we believe Google Images, there is a type of iris called "Neomarica gracilis" which REALLY looks like my plant.

Yes, I found another website, they are saying they come from Brazil and called "false orchids".
The popular name is "Iris of the beach" !

A lot of people mistake irises for orchids. I found that out when I was looking around on ebay.

It is a beautiful plant. Thank you for adopting. I love orchids, and my second most loved plant is Iris. Very similar in looks.
