G'day all.
This is my first thread ever so I hope I have got it correct.
I would like to know what this orchid is.
I live in Brisbane, Australia and I bought it at the local markets a few years back.It is in the ground and growing up a palm tree and has reached a height of over 2 metres. It flowered for the first time last year and again this year.
I thought it was a prismatocarpum but can't match it to any images of that plant. There are other plants at it's base so it is difficult to see if it has "bulbs" but I don't think so. There are thick aerial roots coming off the stems similar to a crucifix orchid. I broke one off and it is growing in a pot but I am unsure if it will flower of if it needs something to climb up.
Any growing info would be appreciated too.
Thank you.
Yes, Arachnis. Probably Arachnis flos-aeris, maybe one of its hybrids. It can reach 10 meters in the wild. It doesn't need to climb, but if it doesn't have something to climb it is certainly going to cover a lot of ground.
Thank you Roy.
I didn't expect such a fast response.
I have now researched this orchid & will take cuttings and plant up our other palm trees.
Didn't know orchids grew like this.
Will be back on this site as I have inherited about 40 orchid plants in pots and have no idea what they are.
Cheers
