some variety of Dendrobium maybe?
it's flowering now (mid-summer Australia), grows directly in the ground, with next-to no attention; extremely hardly, can cope with a lot of direct sun and temps up to mid to high 30s C (95 F) although gets filtered shade from late morning on

That looks like a paph, or a phrag to me. Do you have a pic of the whole plant?

as a newbie, I'm guessing that paph is Paphiopedilum? but not sure what phrag is short for?
yes, the front of the flower definitely resembles a Paphiopedilum, but the tall growing canes (at least 120 cm or 4 feet) made me think it might be a Dendrobium?
this is the best I can manage for full size pic ... garden under reconstruction, hence the mess

Definitely Dendrobium looking to me, judging by the cane on the pic and the bloom, colors like chrysanthum but the shape of the front lip is different, it is very pretty, hope someone will ID it for you soon:-)

Weird! Never seen a dendrobium with a pouch before! Flowers look a lot like a lady slipper, but I agree, that plant does look like a dendrobium.

It is a dendrobium. I don't know the dends well enough to tell you what species or hybrid it is.
Definitely not a paph or phrag.

Looks like Den. moschatum, very nice! The ants seem to like it, too...
