Identification please

Any idea on what type of orchid this is presently in spike? Large oncidium green and burgundy spotted bulbs & large thick heavy leaves. Thanks for any suggestions.



The second plant has many more leaves and they are a light green, but still very thick, 3 x that of gongora types. A spike is coming up between 2 leaves and another on the outside of the bulb. Spike is green with some burgundy. Both plants were brought home from an auction recently so it's a bonus that they are even doing anything, thought likely more easily identified when in bloom. Thanks for any help.

Sorry this is the first plant in question....big thick heavy leaves, pbulbs large, green with burgundy spots. Pictures are sideways...first time posting from my ipad, on my ipad...

Hi Brenda, off the top of my head I'd guess Oncidium ampliatum for the 'first' and Phaius or Phaiocalanthe for the second, but please take those with a grain of salt. Nice healthy-looking plants!

Thank you...I will repost once the plants have flowers, that should make them easier to identify. Will also post better pictures. They were auctioned off outside here in November so I am wondering if the exposure to cooler air prompted them to spike. The prior grower seemed to like different/unusual plants so I'm curious to see what I have.

Plant is now in bloom with 3 spikes. Flowers begin at bottom...and looks like each spike will have about 25 or so. May be a maxallaria? No scent detected. As you can see by full plant picture the leaves are fairly thick and wide. Flowers are approx 2 inches across. Thanks for any suggestions.

Do you still think Eria or other prev suggestions?

What about javanica...does that sound right? I just came accross it today, It looks very close if not it to me.

Picture update. 3 spikes now in bloom. Smells beautiful. Eria javanica I think it is....thanks for your suggestion bellini girl.
