Tittle says it all I've had this Catt for a few years this is the second time it flowers (third soon it has another spike) I got this as a seedling from an orchid show but I lost the tag thanks!! p.s. The flower was still opening in this pic
It is a hybrid and one of the parents must be a Cattleya dowiana where the characteristics is very dominant in the yellow petals and the gold veining of the lip....yet the form of your flower petals is not a dowiana so there must be another parent trait we seem to miss. That tag you lost was the only thing that will give us the true name of your orchid.
Thanks Bud if it helps the plant has really big flowers(about the size of my hand and always flowers in fall-winter from old dried sheaths here is a pic of the flower fully opened
There are too many similar hybrids, from Amber Glow to Ocarina 'Atahualpa', to Alma Kee and Alma Wichmann... best you can say is 'lookalike'.
Parentage is mostly dowiana and aurea, so keep it on the warm side year round, and on the dry side in wintertime to prevent rot. Often these hybrids also contain a bit Laelia tenebrosa.
This is a spectacular flower.
