Cym aloifolium vs Cym findlaysonianum query
Hi folks.
I have a little issue. The Cym on the left I believe has been correctly identified as aloifolium.
The one on the right is from a different source and the label says it's a findlaysonianum. This doesn't seem right to me...it has stripes on the lip.
I thought this was a good way to show the flowers rather than trying to take photos of two spikes side by side or something.
So...I have about five of the first (left - alo?) plant in spike and all of the flowers are as per the picture. I have two spikes on the second (right - find?) plant. The flowers on the right plant have uniformly thicker petals and more deep red on the lip to all of the flowers on the half dozen spikes of the first plant, which are all divisions of a single parent.
Another difference is the first plants are larger with leaves to a metre in length and the "findlaysonianum" is only about 40 cm.
The images are pretty good at showing the variation.
So either:
1. they are both aloifoliums with a slight natural variation;
2. they are both findlaysonianums with a slight natural variation; or
3. findlaysonianum is very, very close to aloifolium - which does not marry up to what I see on the internets where it appears to have a non-stripey lip.
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Aus.
