Which is ID'd correctly?
The flower with the purple center has been ID'd here was Stelis hirtella. I received it as an unidentified Stelis from Ecuador and it matches J&L's photos of that species.
However, this is identified in my collection (came with that ID) as Stelis hirtella (Peru) and matches more closely the pictures on IOSPE of that species.

You might need to go to a higher authority, Carlyle A. Luer perhaps.
The Missouri Botanical Garden's Press offers his work on Pluerothallids in which he describes hundreds of species.

I have the whole set of his works, but there are hundreds of species, as you pointed out, and I was hoping for a quick fix.

Have you tried contacting Lynn O'Shaughnessy?

A daunting task indeed. I only the Masdevallias part of his work, they are arranged according to section, can you find yours that way? Or is the section also a mystery?

Both are lovely, but sorry can't help you further. Are there significant differences in the vegetative parts?

Good idea, Paul. I should contact Lynn. Didn't think of her. Euplusia, they are identical vegetatively as far as I can tell. And, Tindo, his books are arranged by genus, but in the case of Stelis he treats each country separately. I'll have to look there.

Did you figure out which it was? I have 2 from Ecuador listed as "species", but the foliage is about 6".

I haven't. Haven't had a chance to go through all the literature but when I do (if I do) find out I'll post what I've found here.

Dr. Antonio Toscano de Brito at Selby is also working on Stelis. Very nice guy!
