Pls Identify this Orchid - Coelogyne/Cymb?
Default Pls Identify this Orchid - Coelogyne/Cymb?

Hello Experts,

I found a seller selling this plant as Coelogyne Nitada Red. But I do not feel this is a Coelogyne, but seems more closer to be Cymbidium. But the plant seems to be closer to Cattelyea. I am bit confused.

Request to Identify. Attached the plant and Flower photgraph sent by seller.

Thanks,

TO ME, plant looks like a bulbophyllum, flowers are cymbidium like... mmm I wouldn't buy this plant..

ADD: the flower remembers some reddish form of cymbidium finlaysonianum or dayanum or something similar

I agree the plant looks like a bulbo in that shot with the leaves. I don't think the leaves match the flower.

The flowers look like Cymbidium goeringii - which comes in different colour forms including red. Although I haven't seen one with that deep red colour. The leaves are all wrong for this species so I doubt it is a Cymbidium even though the flower is likely to be one.

I wouldn't be buying that plant either.

Actually as an anecdote, I remember correcting a seller once who had a bellatulum for sale but had a photo of venustum. He objected to the fact I corrected him so every time he posted a plant on ebay he sent me a sarcastic comment about the photo he posted. Some people are strange.

Plant and flower do not match. Bolero is right that the flower is a Cymbidium flower but what the plant is, I do not know.

Thanks for your replies..

Surprising thing is the seller is showing the similar plants claiming pink shade of same color, but no flower pic of pink shade.

The deep color is very interesting to me. Seller say that these are wild collected! from Himalayan region.

Agree the flower is a Cym, plant in photo is something else.

A shame, as that's a great looking Cym bloom.

I'd probably avoid that seller.

I have seen this bloom before....In fact I think i saw it last on ebay possibly kawamotto (?) The flower picture seems to me like it is mounted where as the other plant is potted...not a clue but yeah I would stay away from this one. Good reminder to check your source before you buy.

I agree with all the other comments. They don't seem to match and like kindrag says the flowers look to be on a mounted orchid, nothing like the plant shot.

Hi I was surprised by this new plant, I talked to this gentleman and he was persistent about the red celogyne nitteda claim. But then a bit of digging in the net and consultation with friends led me to this link.
This ends the mystery for sure.
