Default Jumbo the Catt

I don't expect an ID, just thought I'd share 'Jumbo". I got this last winter at a yard sale for $1. The lady who owned it was getting to the point she couldn't care for her plants anymore. I went to buy some pots, but she wanted this one to go 'to a good home'- she said she'd had it 40+/- years. I was wondering of it was C. bowringiana at first. Bifoliate, tall gangly clubby psuedobulbs about 2 feet tall. This is the first sheath, there are several more to go and one looks like there's at least 6 buds in there. Flowers are between 4"-5". Might be a closeup or even F1 bowringiana I guess.

Hard to capture the color- I'd call it a coerula, it's a pale bluish lavender. Sweet 'orchid' fragrance.

I don't usually get or keep NOIDs, but Jumbo grew on me. It seems to like it here, it threw out 7 new growths this spring. Maybe I'll keep it. I don't have any other blue cats.

Well....if you change your mind.....

It's awesome that you have a plant that old...and that was so cared for by that lady. I'm sure it has a good home with you! Beautiful!

nice flowers ..

not bowringiana. In fact the flower looks too good to be a species. I would say something in the Lc Roebling 'coerula' vein.. Very nice and I bet it smells goodly too

Beautiful! It takes many years to grow a large specimen cattleya like that. I think you should definitely keep it. I agree that it's not bowringiana. Good luck. Enjoy.
