Default Yellow cattleya alliance - C daffodil perhaps?

Hi All.

I had a pleasant surprise this morning - this was out. I hadn't noticed it in bud. Flowers about 8-10 cm in diameter. I like the red blush on the labellum. I haven't been able to track any good images of C. daffodil online.

I think this may be the same thing, but it's a NOID too:

Daffodil Yellow CATTLEYA

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Aus.

I don't think it's Cattleya Daffodil. Richard's blog has a picture of one that looks very different here.

I couldn't find anything to point in another direction. That slight reddish tinge on the bottom of the lip is tricky. Tracing it back to where it came from is probably your only chance to really identify.

Big pretty flowers though, congrats!

I've got a yellow NoID catt that I suspect is Blc.Yellow Imp. It was bought without a tag at a nursery that has Yellow Imp on stock and not so many other plain, yellow catts.

It's obviously impossible to be certain about the ID, but your flower resembles this one more than the Daffodil pictures that I've seen up to now.

No offence to Richard's blog, but I have the plant he says is C daffodil and it is in fact LC daffodil, not C daffodil. I'm not sure what C daffodil looks like.

*edit - I think I got my terms wrong - I think I meant the pictured plant is BLC/RLC daffodil instead of LC daffodil - sorry*

So I remain curious as to what C daffodil looks like...

Yes, the red is the weird thing.

Cheers,
Aus.

RLC husky boy has some similarities but the red seems too pronounced when compared to mine.

Pic of one of my LC daffodils attached. (Still waiting for my morning coffee to kick in.) I don't have a non-blurry pic of it unfortunately, this is the best I've got. Flowered about 6 weeks ago.

Cheers,
Aus.

Stunning yellow against the blue sky.

As for Daffodil in the Cattleya alliance, things are not that easy:
In 1907 a Lc. today C. Daffodil was registered for Armstrong/Brown as a cross between Mercia and jongheana. Mercia is schroederae x crispata, eventally using the yellow form of Laelia crispata.

In 1940 a Rhyncholaeliocattleya Daffodil was registered for Sladden as a cross between Irma and Trimabilis.

In 1949 Rhynchanthe Daffodil was registered for Fennell as a primary hybrid between Rhyncholaelia glauca and Cattleya/Guarianthe aurantiaca, eventually using the yellow form of Guarianthe aurantiaca.
I think this is the one above that flowered 6 weeks ago.

For anyone interested here is a link to my Daffodil:
Rhyncholaeliocattleya Daffodil

Things are getting more comlicated as today Brassavola is Rhyncholaelia, some Cattleyas were transferred to Guarianthe, Laelia turned into Cattleya and so on.

Sorry, I can't help you to identify the Cattleya in question.

My brain hurts...

So...erm...the second plant (in my post of 5/9/13 is Brassavola daffodil, aka Cattleya daffodil and previusly Laeliocattleya daffodil?

And the first plant - while it isn't RLC daffodil - is likely to be an RLC?

It's too early for this much thinking.

Hi Aussie42, the plant depicted 09-04-13 at 11:02 PM could well be Rhynchanthe Daffodil.
The plant depicted at 7;24 AM could be a RLC, but I can't help you further.
