Do all agree on the identification? Have you seen a larger specimen? I acquired this little baby from a guy's estate who grew it for 20-30 yrs. His son who was vacating some of the estate didn't know much about it. He called it a Ballerina orchid, which is probably a generalized common name for a number of orchids.
Youza! I'm going to leave the indentification to others. My sphacelatum does have large strappy leaves like that but I'm sure it could be other things too. Mine was huge before I split it but not nearly 30 years of growing. (Looked for a pic but its not on the last memory card). Good luck moving it to its new location.
Just fainted. Orchid envy. Freud would have an etymological field day with that one.

Well, how can you post a pic like that and not look like you're bragging. I had the same reaction when I first saw it too..... I wasn't going home without it!
After I get her properly placed and past any problems from being relocated, I think pilgramages may be in order. Thanks for everyone's positive responces!
