Have not seen any critters other than a few spiders so far! Saw a squirrel on the limb above it though. They like to build their nests higher up in the trees. I live in a natural hammock and there are lots of wild things around...but I wouldn't have it any other way!

Welcome to the Board. And, man that orchid is really huge. I'm glad you posted a picture, because it would have been impossible to fathom how huge it really is. Good luck, and please post pictures once it has tons of beautiful blooms. That would be a sight to behold!

Wow what is under all that, a basket? Or are they just growing on top of each other? I have one w about 20 growths on a branch about an inch in diameter, they seem to be ok growing ontop of eachother. congrats.

What ever supports it has long since disappeared inside the giant blob. A thick piece of bent rebar protrudes from the top to which I have hooked onto with a chain. It seems that the idea from the beginning was to get it BIG!

What do you mean when you say that you live in a natural hammock?

I cant wait to get a house so I can start sticking plants to trees. I also plan to grow big when I plan on mounting a plant.

In South Florida, the type of habitat where I live is called a hardwood hammock. It is slightly higher elevation than the surrounding glades and is dominated by hardwood species like Live Oak, Mastic, Gumbo limbo, and Strangler Figs. Its not a cloth stretched between two trees as those unfamiliar might imagine....ha!

Ahh @INCURABLEPLANTHEAD, so it is about like saying to someone you live out in the boondocks or the boonies. You live a mini forest. lol kind of like me.
