Thank you all soooo much!! I've searched since your responses and I know now how to care for these new plants!

I transfered them to S/H and added General Hydropnics Grow fert, Superthrive and CalMagic... they seem to be doing great!! Brighter green and perky leaves. I'll let you now in a few weeks if all of them survive and I'll post pictures!!

Again, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!!

Hey everyone!

Here's an update on the "rescued" plants... I first place them in full water for a couple of days with GH Grow and ST. They seemed to loved it, great vivid green foliage on all.

After two days, I emptied the vases so they would be in S/H, but the bulbs dehydrated... the oncids are better than the maxillaries, which I returned to full water culture.

They are getting plenty of light, are on a heating mat and I place a ventilator at nights.

Can you please advice? Also I don´t know how to recognize the health of the oncidium roots... they are white, but somewhere here I read they must be green?

Thank you so much!!!

White roots are good, if they are actively growing they should have green tips. When the roots are wet they do usually get a green hue as the outside becomes semi translucent when wet exposing the inner coloring of the healthy root.

The Pleurothallid plant really should not be on a heat mat. They are generally cool loving.
Can you get some closer pictures of the blooms?

My Maxillaria are all in bark mix for good drainage. I don't know how well they will fair being in water culture. They tend to yellow and rot if they get too much water.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck with your new plants

Healthy living roots that are actively growing on Oncs are usually, (not always), silvery white with green tips.

Healthy living roots that are actively growing on Maxillarias can either be purple, brown, white, or off white with green or yellow tips. Unless you recognize what a healthy root looks like on your Max, I would advise to not cut them off.

Pots are too big for your Maxillarias. Try and find smaller ones.

You know, your type A plants might not have been Oncids. Well, the first pic definitely is, but the 2nd pic looks an aweful lot like Laelia rubescens. The thick roots of the 2nd pic also look more like L.r. than an Oncidium, which typically have thinner roots.

Heck ya, roots growing are very good! When the new growth on the plant that I think is a Laelia gets about an inch long, please post a pic. Then we should have a better idea of what it is!
