Can anyone identify this wild orchid? Male
Default Can anyone identify this wild orchid?

I was in Cape Cod this past weekend to see family. Walking past my great Aunt Mary's house, I caught this little guy out of the corner of my eye.

I stopped by to take a look, and I'm almost certain it's an orchid. Can anyone identify it though?

Thanks all!

Pretty sure it's an orchid. It reminds me of ones RolandHanko has shown in the past, but I don't really know what it is.

If you're up for it, you can see if you can find it in this scanned version of a book:

Our native orchids; - Biodiversity Heritage Library

Sure someone has seen one and knows what it is though!

Epipactis helleborine, not really a native but a European species that has established itself all across the northern USA and southern Canada. A very nice pale form of the species, though. We saw it just a week or two ago in western Michigan.

Native Orchids of the Pacific Northwest and the Canadian Rockies: Broad-leaved Helleborine (Epipactis helleborine)

Hey Boy, you go around with open eyes.
Here in Germany Epipactis are very common in the forests, and along the roads. The flowering season is August. I even had it in my garden (for the joy of the plant-louses).
