I found this beautiful orchid at a flower store, it was only labelled mini phalaenopsis, but its noting like any phalaenipsis I’ve ever seen, there is over 70 buds! There are three flower stems at the opening in the leaves one of witch has a leaf, but not the kind I would think to be a keiki. All of the flowers (over 15) had this phenomenon so I’m wondering if its the kiss of death or if its a cross bread of some kind? Anyways I figured it was so beautiful it didn’t matter if I would only have it for one bloom and if so I might get a keiki.
When I was in Norway about month ago I also saw some of these types. Those I found were not staked and I thought they looked wild and beautiful with spikes hanging all over. They also had terminal spikes. Had to, I suppose... There wasn't room for more normal spikes.
I'm guessing it's a manipulated NOID that has been cultivated to produce this insane flowering, but perhaps other OB members will know or have suggestions as to what the parentage might be.
What really confuses me is that there are three of them and that little leaf. It was marked as a two stem flower, but it actually has five! Its truly a beauty, I hope I manage for it to get a full bloom and not lose any buds, it actually looks like its still producing them!
Looks like a terminal spike (the one coming from the center of the crown. The plant probably won't be able to grow from the crown any longer, but may continue to bloom for some time, and will also likely get new basal growth, as well as possible keikis on spikes.
