Where did you purchase it? Was there any tag with it?

It looks like an Oncidium to me too. The flowers may help identify it further.

Colmanara Wildcat is a good guess. Mine also have bulbs like this.
And, that's a nice oncidium. At least in my eyes. I love the wildcat flowers and the scent.
After all this guessing, I'm looking forward to see the flowers! Please post pictures when they open up!

Well, it's definitely not a bulbophyllum.
I'd think it's somewhere around the Oncidium alliance - but the flowers will help.

The picture of the bulbs made me think of my Colmanara wildcat as well, though it might just be the angle.
Where is the spike starting from? As far as I know Encyclia is related to Catt and the spikes come out the top of the bulb. Oncidiums grow the spikes out from the base of the bulb.
My guess would be some sort of Oncidium related orchid, like Colmanara or one of the other Oncidium cousins.

I must say, it looks a lot like the pictures of the "Colmanara Wildcat" Oncidium.
SJF - I got it at a backyard garden sale, it was just sitting there being happy. The tag said "orchid".
My main concern with this plant is to maintain the care appropriately so that the flowers will flourish - so bright light, moist. (Fert?) I'm a little nervous about having moved it inside during this time of it's growth, but I can't resist the urge to stare at it every day.
I most certainly will post the flowers when they open. (You can't stop me now!) I'm happily surprised at just how fun having an orchid community can be. And a smart one too. Thanks OB!

Hi Folks
the main reason I also say Oncidium Alliance/Intergeneric is because the spike is coming from the bottom alongside the lower side leaf.
Encyclia, et al, like catts bloom from the terminal portion of the latest pseudobulb.
The purple pigments in the bulb, stem, and buds lean towards a darker colored (and quite happy) oncidium hybrid.
Now, post when the posey pokes its nose thru!
Take care
Rex
May all your orchids bloom like crazy!

Rex - Good observation on the spike placement and coloring. I never realized that each genus does indeed have such different characteristics.
And, funny you should mention it - I just took a picture of the buds last night! Each one of them clearly have these two little spikes on the top - and they have since they erupted from the spike. Fun to watch.

Looking back at your original picture I think the pseudobulb is too round and short to be a SB. Waiting game...

Mike, has it flowered yet? I also think its an Onc. a very happy one at that! And Sharry Baby has different pseudobulbs, they r taller, more pear-shaped, so it's almost certainly not that... But I'm curious as to what it is, so please post pics! Thanks!
