Perfect! Just use a big pot and you can use mulch for media, they don't like to dry out like true epiphytes. These are ground orchids. And give them as much sun as you can, preferably full sun all day, or at least half the day. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. Will just any mulch work?

I would think so. We use Cypress mulch around here, but I'm sure pine would be ok, just break down faster.

If you give them air flow, sun, and mulch kept relatively moist they're pretty hard to keep from growing like a weed.

Air flow, sun and mulch, no problem for the summer I am a little worried about the winter.

Howdy
1 = Epidendrum (why? see below...)
2 = Oncidium
3 = Dendrobium
4 = Cattleya type
5 = Catt
6 = Dend
Epidendrum because the stem is flexible green for much/most of its length.
A slender Dendrobium, in similar fashion will have a sheath-like covering for as much as half the length from the bottom up -- typically -- not always. But, it is often more substantial in strength, tho it may grow out and down by habit. A lot of dendie leaves tend to be a bit wider, and certainly thicker from where they originate on the stem.
Hope this helps

may all your orchids bloom like crazy

another thing about epi's
they always bloom from the terminal end of the newest growth.
dendies with this appearance /growth habit will tend to bloom all along the cane. Am not talking about grocery store/traderjoe dendies.
Look for previous blooms, and where they originated -- this will help in identification.
Take care
Rex

here's some pictures of one
Thanks again for all the help
Oh I almost forgot but they are getting a red kind of color under the leaves is this from to much light?
