Paph. or Phrag.?
hello everybody.
i bought this one today but i have no idea if it's a paphiopedilum or phragmipedium. the old lady that sold it to me said it was a "dutch slipper", whatever that means.
i have zero experience with "slippers" so sorry if it's a stupid doubt

I think it is a Phrag. I don't think I've ever seen a Paph that color but hopefully one of the Paph experts can way in.

I second Phragmipedium, probably a hybrid.
You live in a country, where several sliper species can be found in the wild and often in pots in the patio. Once a year a famous show is held in your city. It would be worth a look.

thanks eplusia. but when i said i had zero experience, i just meant with taxonomy. i know there are lots of native species and that it is a very popular house plant.
and of course, every person living in medellin has to know about the show. i go every year, at least two times |

Definitely a Phrag. Definitely a hybrid. Could be Phrag Sedenii, but there are several hybrids of this general type so a positive ID isn't possible.

It's not "chubby" enough in the pouch to be Sedenii and definitely not a species.

Not sure I would ever purchase a plant from somebody who didn't know the difference between paphs and phrags... Accept as a gift, maybe, but if I'm going to part with my hard earned cash, it will be with somebody who has a glimmering of a clue.

i agree with you a 100%. but it was a very cheap plant (about 10 us dollars). and not only she didn't knew the difference, for her it was just a slipper, i'm sure she doesn't even know what a paphiopedilum is.
and about the id. thanks everybody for the help, it was identified as a phrag. x schroederae (Sedenii X caudatum) |
