Default Dendrobium "Genting Glory"?

Hello everyone, I am new to the boards and have appreciated all the advice thus far! I have had several orchids and have "killed" them all. By "killed" I mean not understanding the needs of the orchid and giving up before giving it a chance. So anywho, I am determined to get things right this time! I bought a Dendrobium about 3 months ago and have been struggling with the care, but am understanding more and more about it. So this brings me to my question, in order to fully understand what my Dendrobium needs, I would like to nail down exactly what species it is, so I can better determine if this is a wintering Dendrobium or not. The ID tag that came with him says Den. "Genting Glory", however none of my research comes up with anything. I have been trying to add some photos or add a link to the photos but keep getting an error message. I will try again tomorrow.

Welcome. You need 5 posts before you can post a photo. Here is a link with some tips: http://www.orchidboard.com/community...ng-photos.html

Your orchid is a registered hybrid. it has a number of species in its makeup but 50% is Den. phalaenopsis or bigibbum as it is sometimes called. It is a warm growing Dendrobium with little change in temps throughout the year. But water and fertilizer should be reduced in winter. For the phaelonpsis Den. OrchidWiz recommends quite a dry rest with only the occasional misting or light water. Don't think that because it has Den. phalaenopsis in it that it is related to a Phal or moth orchid. They are totally different. Some say Den. phalaenopsis is named that because the blooms look like a Phal. Hope this helps. It also likes fairly high light.

I don't grow this one, but have a couple Den-Phals. I don't know where you live, but mine do fine in the often quite low (daytime) humidity in California, and grow and bloom well in east or west facing windows.

That's very helpful, I live in Colorado and currently my townhouse has either a south-east or a north-west window. As long as my blinds are closed in the early morn or late afternoon it seems to do good, but then I worry it's not getting any light during the hours when the blinds are closed to block out the direct sun. Also, as you're probably very aware, humidity levels are very low here :-) I just bought this awesome meter called a Momet meter, so I'm able to see that my humidity is about 25% and light ranks low :-( does my dendro have a fighting chance?

I've been growing a bunch of Den. kingianums and they have survived all of my Maine apartments. They seem to like more humidity, but they have survived some very dry rooms. It's a pretty common orchid so you should be able to find it easily and cheap too.
