Hi all!

I've recently gotten two new additions to my little collection and was hoping for some ID help on them. I have enough posts so I've added those pictures I was talking about! Horray!

Orchid #1; bought at Armstrong Garden Center
The flowers are made up of five long, pointed burgundy with a smidge of tan around the outside edge. The 6th petal points down and is thicker than the others. It's got more of the tan coloration, with burgundy spots closer to the center of the flower. There's a clear liquid on the stem (it's sweet tasting), and the flower smells good. The first picture is the entire plant, the second picture is a close up of the flowers.

Orchid #2; bought at Home Depot (because I can't just go in for the little 1/2" PVC caps I need without an orchid apparently!)
This one really caught my eye- I generally look at HD flowers just for fun but I generally don't buy. I made an exception for this one! It's a slightly smaller orchid but I'm guessing it's just a younger plant. The flowers look similar to what my phals look like, but these are slightly pointed at the ends of the petals. The petals are a bright sunny yellow, and the interior portion of the flower is hot tropical pink. When I brought this orchid home, my husband thought it was a silk plant because its colors look so different! I don't know if this plant was somehow dyed, if it will loose its colors at some point or what... but it looks fantastic now! 3rd and 4th pictures are pics of this one.

Well, the second one MAY be a Dendrobium.

Really impossible to say without pix.

If you browse around the board you might find some similar ones, and you could post comments to get to the needed 5 posts to post pix

Only guessing at this point with limited description and no pics, but the first could be a Miltassia hybrid and the second is probably a Dendrobium phaleanopsis hybrid.

Maybe, but maybe the first one is something like Brassia or hybrid (Brassada)

Is your second one anything like the one at the very bottom of this page? The minis often seem to have pointier tips.

greengarden, yes, that photo does look like my second mystery orchid! Is it actually a miniature plant or just a young plant that will grow bigger?

The first one looks like Miltassia Shelob. Without a tag it is just a guess. There are others that look much the same. It is a member of the Oncidium family. It has Brassidium and Miltonia in it. Likely a warm to intermediate grower needing medium amounts of light. Water just before it becomes dry.

The 2nd one is a Phal Hybrid. There are so many it is impossible to guess at a name.

Both are very nice!

Thank you!

I'm glad I could get some info on them! I wanted to make sure I'm taking care of them properly.
