ID Confirmation
I really don't like having in my collection NOID orchids, but I don't go to extremes with that. Sometimes (well, maybe a bit more than sometimes!) you have to surrender to the beauty for itself. That's the case with this NOID Blc. Its true color, a singular orange hardly seen on any large, very well shaped Cattleya, my camera was unable to faithfully capture (these digital cameras are easy to operate, but sometimes no matter what you do, they simply refuse making a correct color registration). It was not identified when I bought it, but I got it anyway for the color!!! ). I was later assured that the plant would actually be an old hybrid named Blc. Sunset Bay. Could anyone confirm this?
BTW, a Google search on the Internet shows lots of hybrids using Blc. Sunset Bay, but I was unable to find a single picture of the plant itself!

Yours looks very similar to Blc. Sunstate which is a Sunset Bay hybrid...

Being a mac owner I just switched to aperture for my photo editing and they have an awesome ability that allows you to color correct for a specific color, it comes in really handy when color correcting for one specific flower color, as it will change just the color of the flower, without changes the rest of the image.

An orchid by any other name....
It's gorgeous! Glad you didn't let the noid stand in your way.
Enjoy!

Mauro, it's a beauty, no matter what it is!
I checked Orchidwiz but unfortunately, this is one that does not have a photo to go along with the info.

This cross was registered in 1968 and the only picture references I see are from Japanese and Tawainese cattleya picture books from 1984-1985. It easily could be that hybrid as the parent BLC Waianae Sunset is a well known art shade breeder. Some of these oldies are still good these days........I've never seen orchids in a gas station, only in paradise I guess!

Mauro, I took liberty of grabbing your image and readjusting color channels in Photoshop. Hope you don't mind. Is this better?
No camera (film or digital) will capture every color accurately since the imagers or film are adjusted to average colors and come up with a result that is best in the majority of situations. In the "old days" film photographers had an arsenal of kinds of film based on the result they were after. Fujichrome for greens, Kodacolor for reds, etc.

That's what I thought too, Phantasm, but until we get a positive ID it keeps as a noid! Thanks for the info.

Yes, your work let it pretty much like it is in the real world, more orange and not so 'salmon' as in my picture. Thanks! Good job on the Photoshop!
