Saw this on a photo site I belong to, any ideas?
I know this is something that may not be answered. I did contact Barry (he's one of the photographers I follow on pbase) to ask if he knows, but I'm not sure if photographers who aren't into orchids will photograph the tag as well. But this is so breath taking I have to find out! It's at the Baltimore conservatory, so I assume I can find them and ask too if you guys can't help. But any ideas??

Out of respect, I'm only posting the link not the image.

It could be Mtssa Dark Star, or Alcra. Marfitch, or possibly Brat. Charles M. Fitch. There are so many Oncidium type and so hard to compare the purple colours as they can be so different with different people's photos. It is a lovely one and I know I've seen similar before.

I've also seen similar ones before, I was also thinking of Mtssa Dark Star. I think that if you 're satisfied with having a similar one, there are plenty of choices out there.

Looking at that one on OL it seems pinkier. What catches my eye is the deepness of the purple.

A lot of cameras have trouble with accurately capturing purples, so photos may not necessarily be accurate. I'll also check orchidwiz this evening, it can compile a list of similar plants.

Looking on google I'm seeing OL may be wrong with the coloring due to their camera. Here is a photo I found and it's on OB!

I'm assuming this may be the right one as a lot of the photos online show it much darker. Thanks everyone! That was really quick in answering!!

It's definitely not Peggy Ruth Carpenter 'Morning Joy'. I have that one and the petals are primarily white with purple blotches. It could be another clone of Peggy Ruth Carpenter such as 'J.E.M' but it looks closer to Dark Star. there are many un-named crosses too.

She's referring to the other orchid in that thread (Mtssa. Dark Star). I was confused too until I clicked the link.

Beautiful! It does look like Bllra. (may have changed) Marfitch 'Howard's Dream'
