Phal Nivacolor? or NoID? Beginner- my first orchid
Default Phal Nivacolor? or NoID? Beginner- my first orchid

**I've read the "Why NoIDs are NoIDs" thread, so I understand there may be no answer to my question!

I received my first orchid as a present this year. It was bought from a grocery store. The tag says Phalaenopsis Orchid Dtps I-Hsin Spot Leopard.

I've been googling names and it looks most like a Phal Nivacolor, which Wikipedia says is a hybrid cultivar. Anyone know if this is what mine is? What IS the Nivacolor a hybrid of--what species? The flower looks exactly like the professional photo (the closeup of the flower) below. Thank you!

The name on the tag should be what it is. I just did a quick google of that name and could not find it, so that might not be a registered cross yet. Also, Welcome to the Board!!

Good to be here! Very cool site. I've learned a ton. OK, so it IS a Spot Leopard, but what does that mean? How does that translate into species name? I couldn't find anything from a google search either!

I checked in Orchidwiz and this hybrid is made up of 12 phal species. Further it goes back at least 5 generations.
The parents are Dtps Leopard Prince ( fairly common hybrid ) and Phal Salu Spot ( also quite common ).
This hybrid was registered in 2006 and has no registered offspring.
Unfortunately I can't copy/paste info from Orchidwiz.

You may be able to search further on Orchidwiz - online. I don't know if they still have a free trial.

Wow! I hadn't heard of the Orchidwiz program. That's awesome. I downloaded the 30 day free trial and looked up the Spot Leopard. Thank you!
