Default Can't identify. Won't bloom. Won't die.

Got this 5 years ago. It is un-named. Not sure how to grow it. Every year it puts out some new "canes" and leaves, then eventually they fall off and next year same thing. I have been growing it next to my catts with lots of light. If I had a clue I might be able to alter the growing conditions and see it bloom. I keep telling myself to just throw it out since we all have a space problem. This is my last chance. Help me or this plant dies.

Love the title of the thread. Photos would help but you will need to make a few posts before you can attached pics. Once you can post pics, its possible that some one the board will be able to identify at least the genus so that you can get basic culture instructions. I've got a few that refuse to bloom but grow happily and I just can't bear to throw them away - and I should!

Looks really dehydrated. If they plant isn't getting enough water to keep the canes "fat and plump", it'll be tough for it to bloom, sufficient light or not.

Nup, I'm almost 100% convinced what you have there is Dendrobium farmeri - I can tell by the square pseudobulbs. Don't feel too bad, I've had one (slightly larger than that) for 3 years and it hasn't bloomed either.

I think you're probably right, Dan, but what about tetragonum? I'm having a hard time telling from the picture. Davie, could you repost a bigger photo? Though growing well in high light sounds more like farmeri I guess...

It's also upright... tetragonum is pendulous and i would expect to have thinner growths, although I agree that would be the only alternative with pbulbs anything like that.

lol sounds kinda like a ransom note, hopefully someone will be able to help you.

Carrie, before throwing anything away I would be totally willing to take them off your hands and pay for shipping. Let me know.

Adriana, I'm not throwing anything away (at least not yet). So you mean DavieDallas?

If I have anything I'm going to bail on, I'll let you know Adriana. Since you're in Manhattan an exchange would be easy since I'm in Manhattan at least once a week these days

Sweet, thanks Carrie, I did mean you but I think I sort of misread your post, I didn't see the part where you said you wouldn't toss them, just the "I should" part.

Maybe we can trade sometime too
