Guys, I'm in a phase where weird, unidentified orchids seem to be coming my way, and I've got another one that I'd like to identify, if possible.
A bit of background on this one. It was collected in the wild, but years ago and I've got no idea who did it. It is now growing as a terrestrial plant in a garden, under a shade tree and that's where I got it from. It's spreading out by producing new bulbs and it's now a pretty large specimen plant. These bulbs is just a small division from that mother plant. It is probably from the north-eastern part of Namibia, but when I scroll through orchids found in Namibia on the IOPSE database, I don't find any that looks like this. Maybe I need to expand my search to include Zimbabwe and Zambia.
It's a rather small plant in growth. The bulbs are 8-10 cm tall and so are the biggest ones on the mother plant. Rumor has it, that the flowers are small and white, but I'm not sure that the current owner has actually seen it flower.
It got no leaves at the moment, but that ring around the bulb suggests it's a Eulophia, perhaps? And it's got thick, white terrestrial roots like the Eulophia petersii (and cymbidiums), for instance.
I put it into a small pot in bark and rocks, just because I'm not quite sure what to do with it. Have had it for only a couple of weeks and this morning I see this little growth on the newest bulb.
Any suggestions? New bulb? Aerial root (surely can't be, or what?)? Spike?!
