Need help with ID's! 2 possible Odont/Oncidium alliance members

Hello all...

I have 2 flowers that I'm having some trouble identifying. The first, I believe, is a Beallara Marfitch - possibly Howard's Dream?? It was mislabed a Miltonia when I purchased it, but after doing some research, I believe it's a Beallara. One of the 2 pseudobulbs has shriveled and I thought the plant was not doing well, even though it has spiked a second set of flowers since I've had it, but it's now growing a new shoot (I think it'll be a new p-bulb), which you can faintly see in one of the pictures. I re-potted it into a fine bark mix a few weeks ago and have a humidity tray underneath and have been trying to water it every 2-3 days since it seems to dry out quickly. The new set of flowers isn't as vibrantly colored as the flowers were when I purchased it, but I'm assuming the fading is related to being re-potted and adjusting to a new environment.

The second is some type of oncidium/odontoglossum hybrid. Based on the online research I did, it might be a "Midnight Miracle," but I'm having a hard time finding out what species this is and how to take care of it. The plant definitely needs to be re-potted ASAP, the media looks broken down and like it's growing algae in it. Besides a few scars on the p-bulbs, the plant looks healthy and is growing a new shoot. I'm not sure if I should use a fine orchid mix for this one, or use more of a sand/peat mix. From what I read online, this plant may be terrestrial as opposed to epiphytic? Also, I think these plants like to be extremely root bound so should I avoid dividing it until later? Any care information you can give me would be much appreciated!

The oncidiums and family do well for me in lava rock. I wet them very well (soaking them for a few minutes in a bucket works great) and let them dry completely before watering again.
As for identifying them, I cannot. If you are fortunate, you will find a tag when you repot. They are very pretty.

the red one is Colmanara"Masai Red" and the second is i dont know check a Wilsonara or Odontocidium

Oncidium alliance intergeneric hybrids - first is possibly Bllra Marfitch. The other could be a "Colmanara" (no longer a correct hybrid name, often used for many Onc. alliance intergenerics, I think the 'true' former Colmanaras are Odont x Miltonia ?) Doing both a web search and image search for 'Colmanara' I see a few hybrids that look quite look yours - a positive i.d. may not be possible

Thank you all so much for your help! I'm new to the Odontoglossum/Oncidium alliance and am nervous but excited to have a new challenge. It seems that both of the plants went through a bit of a shock after being repotted from moss to bark mix, but they both seem to be doing well, and now that I know what they are, they will (hopefully) live long and happy lives

That looks a lot like my "wildcat" that I showed here on OB. I also have a 'howards dream" and will be de;lighted if mine looks like this one. It is nice. Where are you located now aqua? I am by the pier in O'side.

Yes, my red one looks just like your Colmanara Wildcat! I am back in my hometown of Bakersfield and miss the beach every day! Lucky for you to live by the pier, Oceanside has some beautiful beaches, and I have fond memories of seeing dolphins swimming in the ocean while eating at Ruby's

Be aware your plants must always be considered noids (no id) unless you have a label. There's no way of being 100% sure you have the correct id without proper labelling or a genetic test!

Also 'Massia Red', though it is registered on RHS, it's registered without parent information. I read somewhere that it's actually used for several different plants with different breeding (might be something to do with export rules!).

All annoying I know... I have several noids with probable id, and a Massia Red. (Mine has a white-edged lip though).

Doesn't matter if you just want to enjoy them. But you shouldn't show them or post pictures on the web without noting that they came without ID.
