Beautiful white NOID plant I got today!
Default Beautiful white NOID plant I got today!

It does have a tag but it says nothing to me.
The seller told me it has odontoglossum and miltonia in it, and the stuff on the tag has information about its growth at the nursery. When I heard miltonia in it, I decided to grab it.

My search with the general name odontonia gave me a very close (possibly the same) orchid for my new plant. Odontonia Boussole 'Blanche'.

I like how the leaves are erect and not droopy like many of the plants in the oncidium alliance, thus not taking up too much space. The pure white bloom has a little bit of spots near the center and the back has some lavendar markings, which I think add to the beauty.

This plant is also rather petite, which is nice, dark pbs with two new growths that are quite grown up already!

I hope it survives the summer heat here as it has miltonia in it.

The very first flower at the bottom of the spike is funny missing one sepal and one petal. No, they are not ripped off, they never formed.

It is planted in loose lava rock chips with moss. Never seen this type of potting mix, but I guess it helps with drainage while maintaing moiture. The roots seem not so good (not white as in typical oncidium type but rather yellowish), but I could be wrong because apparently the plant looks amazing with flowers and two new growths going. I will see how it fares in my care.

Nice. It looks a little like my Aliceara tahoma glacier.

Thank you, Susie!

I thought it was Beallara, or is it reclassified??
Anyhow, it does look sort of like Tahoma Glacier with less spots, right?

In real life, the flowers on this plant is much smaller (3 in) than Tahoma Glacier, and the overall flower shape is more round.

Yeah apparently it is now called an Aliceara so there you go. I only found out myself last week. I have one in double spike at the moment. Yours is def. less spotty so it isn't one but similar. I don't know what exactly but it's nice though

Things in the orchid naming world seem to be ever changing! very confusing!

By the way, my Tahoma Glacier last flowered with double spike and now half dead, suffering a few episodes of surgery.

I think this new white one is Colmanara or Odontonia.
Supposed to have a scent, but nothing I can tell. still like it.

Sorry to hear about the t.G. Mine is potted in sphag and it has really taken off in the year that I have had it. It put out two new growths and they are what is in bud right now. I love it so much. I have a nelly ilsler as well but it doesn't move me as much as my t.g. Even though nelly is flowering I still can't wait for my tg to bloom.

congrats! I guess I should move mine to sphag as well?
I noticed they like moiture, but I was afraid of possible root rot so I recently repotted it from some myterious moss it came in to paph mix, which is a mixture of coconut husk chips, perlite chips, charcoal, rice hulls, and hydrotons. Fast draining and moisture retaining mix.
It is slowly progressing, but I'm keeping a close eye on it.

I hear nelly can be fussy?

Personally I love sphag for oncids and intergenerics. It never lets me down. You don't have to be constantly watering when you use sphag. I have never lost a plant from sphag. The only one that didn't like it very much was my phrag which is now back in bark charcoal and perlite. My nelly isler was also a rescue from the garden centre and it too is doing well. It has a new spike with some beautiful blooms on it and three new growths just starting. I got an Odontoglosssum grande last week and that too has gone in to sphag today. I like it, it is a good medium for people who just can't be bothered to water almost daily otherwise.

Is your Nelly Isler in sphag? Mine has been in bloom for a while but needs re-potting soon. I am tempted to try it in sphag with maybe some charcoal in it. I have a lot of wrinkly leaves even tho I don't let it get totally dry.

Yes it went into sphag as soon as I got it home because it was snail infested as it came from a garden centre so I repotted into sphag and she has just taken off. I do occasionally get the crinkly leaves too but they aren't that bad. I think it just happens regardless of medium. I have three new growths just started these last few months so I would recommend it.
