I know this is a really old post but something reminded me of it. I was looking through some pictures and considering the region it's located in and the conditions I think it's a type of trichocentrum. They range from Mexico through Central America into South America. They often endure prolonged drought due to the locations they grow in and the leaves will shrivel significantly without ill effects during periods of long drought. The leaves have adapted to be very succulent as a result and the pseudobulbs are quite small. Many of them have this colouration on their leaves as well. I'm not sure if you have checked this puppy out since you posted but if it flowered and had 1 large showy flower it is very likely it is a trichocentrum, as this is one of their characteristics. Kinda looks like a trichocentrum tigrinum. I'd love to know if you were able to catch it in bloom or were able to get any more information on this funny little thing
