Hello there,

I've had this orchid and completely lost the name tag. I almost killed it when I first had it(it lost all of its leaves) but now it is doing much better in my vivarium.

The original leaves were about 3.5in across and there were two pair before they fell off. Now you can see the new growth. The leaves that were there before they fell off looked like the ones in the far right of the first photo. I'm pretty sure it is some sort of miniature but not 100% certain of that.

I think it's getting too much light at the moment but hopefully that fern I have will shade it some.

From recollection I think it is a Dendrobium species of some sort.

looks like a cane-type dendrobium, many of which are deciduous

Andy, I agree, it looks like a mini cane-type dendrobium. So, the loss of leaves may have been perfectly normal. If that's the case, then it may be one of the types that needs a winter rest - in which case, being in your viv may not be the best place for it.

Hopefully, more experienced Den growers can help with what to do... as I've just started growing Dens and am still learning.

Maybe post the question to the Den section of the forum?

Yeah, I'll ask in the Dendrobium forum. It lost it's leaves in the first place because I got pretty sick and let it dry out completely. The new growth is doing good so far but when it first put out a new leaf it turned yellow and then fell off. That hasn't happened since. I think because of the light changes and also because I moved it farther away from the water feature in the tank. It's been in the tank for around 6months or so I think and I have noticed good root growth and the leaves that you see.

I've got it under a 192watt cf fixture that has one bulb on for around 14hrs and the other comes on for about 8. I think it is getting yellow from too much light really.

The person I got it from is into frog vivs and everything and he suggested it for the tank.
