unknown catt alliance identification needed

I reckon one parent is Laelia crispa ( a species ) crossed with something like C. ( Laelia ) purpurata or
C. (Laelia) lobata.

Very interesting search on this plant. I believe its an uncommon plant. Originally collected / known as a Natural Hybrid but later done as a nursery cross.
Formally, Laelia crispa x Laelia lobata, both now known as Cattleyas. The name IMO is,

Cattleya wyattianum.

Looks like a Laelia Purpurata hybrid to me too.

To offer a slightly different opinion... I agree that something like L. (or C.) crispa or lobata is a likely contributor, but probably in combination with something like C. intermedia. It is fun to speculate, but you can really never be sure with a cross like this. You might identify a couple prominent species involved, but it could be a more complex hybrid and then the possibilities quickly become endless.

Where can I find more information on cattleya wyattianum? Specifically when and by whom it was collected as a naturally occuring hybrid.

You'll have to type .. laelia wyattianum .. into a google search engine & go from there. There isn't a huge amount of info or pics, just enough for me to be 95% certain thats what you have.

I tried that first thing and found nothing. Am I just not seeing it or do you have better access in Australia.

The RHS site gives a reference for this species; see if you can find that, you may need the help of a librarian at a university or botanical institution of some sort.

It's not very detailed, I'm afraid, but that's where I'd start my hunt for the info you were looking for; as it says comb. nov. it would seem to be the authoritative source.
