I didn't think that finding a name would be so difficult! The person who gave it to you has really no idea of the ID?
Whatever it is, it's a very nice addition to the collection

No, and this person has taken to sending me pictures of all their NOIDs (a service which is more than amply repayed in spare plants ), and even terribly handwritten tags to try and decipher! LOL.
Over the weekend, I got one that looked like:
Lipposceles x Zuma Holiday
x Zuma Happiness
but I can find nothing like "Lipposceles" in the RHS database (The International Orchid Register / RHS Gardening). Just shows why good labels (and vaguely intelligible handwriting!) are useful. Initially I was lead somewhat up the wrong trail, as their email said "another Paph" but they meant "Phal". The Zumas in the name made me think "Phal" as Zuma Canyon are big phal people. I attach it for amusement value. Perhaps it is Lippeschleier?

This is the problem with NOIDs, once they get that way, they tend to stay so. Someone needs to work out a way of using DNA to figure out what a hybrid is. Probably rather challenging, but a potentially interesting tool nonetheless.

Developing molecular markers would be possible, but it is an expensive and time consuming process.

I'm checking the RHS orchid parentage search, and there is a cross Zuma Holiday x Zuma Happiness = Phal Happy Holiday, but this one is not crossed with anything remotely ressembling 'Lipposceles'. And without parentheses in there, maybe it wasn't ever the Zumas that were first crossed, but I can find no trace of Zuma Holiday being crossed with anything else, either as pollen or seed parent.

Yes, I tried without success in RHS and OrchidWiz. Must be an U/G; makes it quite annoying to know for sure what that first word scrawl is!

To me the tag reads:
Phal. Lippeschleier X (Phal Zuma Holiday X Phal Zuma Happiness)

As to the picture, it's not fasciata as far as I can tell, the lavender on the lateral sepals and around the column, I think rule it out.

Thanks Glen. Sadly without the parentheses on the label, we'll never know, but I agree the first scrawl looks like Lippeschleier.

The only reason I say that is because the cross of the two Zuma's has been named Phal Happy Holiday. Which makes it just an unregistered cross:

(Phal. Lippeschleier X Phal. Happy Holiday)
