I know without id its impossible to say exactly, but if anyone has seen a catt like this, I would love to know so I can track it down. I took these pics at the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory this past fall, and made sure to check the name on the id, and of course forgot it! It has been driving my crazy because I want it and dont know what name to look for, and all the "blue" catts Ive seen online just dont quite compare. It is huuuuge and bifoliate, with big, sky blue, floppy petaled flowers, and a nice yellow throat. Any ideas?

I have no idea, I'm not a cattleya expert, but I have a question for you. What causes the floppy petals? I have a laelia pumila hybrid in bloom right now, doing the same thing.

I'm not sure exactly, but I think in this ones case it might be low light levels. It looked like it had been there for a while, and it was a pretty shady location. Maybe some plants are prone to it? I know there is one cattleya species I read about that is supposed to have them, maybe mossiae. I guess any with large, thin petals would be prone to droopiness.

I just googled some pictures of laelia pumila, and it looks like some are fairly floppy petaled.

I am not a big cattleya expert (I don't really even like most of them [shock!!! horror!!!]) - a quick google image search for cattleya coerulea yielded some promising avenues - coerulea forms of C. gaskelliana, C. luddemaniana and C. Portia look quite similar to that bloom.

Perhaps someone with more Cattleya knowledge will be able to pin it down more accurately!
