Default Phaius Orchid for ID

Dear friends,

This Phaius flowered last February. I am not sure whether this is a Phaius tankervillae as the flower color is litter different from P.tankervillae. Kindly confirm the ID.

Regards,
Mani Nair

It's not tankervillae - whether it's another species or a hybrid I don't know for sure, but I suspect the latter.

Phaius tankervilleae grows in a huge area and is highly variable, as far as I know. There exists also a large number of unknown or undescibed species. Orchidspecies has a similar plant listed as Phaius luridus (unconfirmed).
Maybe a botanist in India knows it better. Anyway an interesting flower. Thx for sharing.
