Gomesa sp. ID
Hello!
Today a friend gave me a Gomesa sp. he has had for some years now and bloomed once, after 4 years of growth. Here is his thread with a flower photo of the actual plant he gave me. It has finished flowering now.
He bought it as an Oncidium crispum from a German seller and the plant was imported by the seller from Brazil. What species is it?
Thank you very much in advance!

The orchid in the photo is definitely not even close to being what I know to be what you're calling Gomesa crispa at all! It is beautiful, though.
This is what I know to be Gomesa crispa according to the older taxonomy texts:

To be sure there's no mistaking the plant in your photo with Gomesa recurva. The following is what I know to be Gomesa recurva (according to the older texts):

The plant in your photo is not even Gomesa alpina!
I think your plant is not even in the genus Gomesa at all! I think your plant could possibly be something in the genus Oncidium, Odontoglossum, or Cyrtochilum.
Which genera it belongs to, I have no idea at the moment; and I definitely am not sure which species it is.
Maybe a photo of the entire plant can help better.

OK. Oncidium crispum was moved to Gomesa as Gomesa imperatoris-maximiliani, but this is not that species. It could well be one of the Oncidiums moved to Gomesa, but not one I recognize.

Could it be a Gomesa gravesiana?
What are its chances of being a pure species(maybe a geographical variety of a species or even an undescribed species) and what of being a hybrid of some kind?
Thank you very much in advance!

The likelihood of it being a man-made hybrid is pretty slim.
It just doesn't have that polished look that a man-made hybrid usually has.
Could it be a natural hybrid? Maybe, who knows...
A new species, or a described species that not many people are aware of quite possibly.
Your plant may not be Gomesa (Oncidium) gravesiana. The sepals and petals on your plant are significantly thinner.
Either way it's still back to square one.

Do you have a botanical garden near you that has greater access to resources that can help you identify this plant? You may want to consider emailing them about it.
It may be a new species...
