Opal, thanks for your comments. I've come much closer to ID'ing my paph -- maudiae 'Garnet Flame'.

Look at the photo on this page:

This is certainly not Maudiae 'Garnet Flame'. That is a high quality awarded clone (AM/AOS, 83 pts) and this is not even close to being award quality. Not only that, but with Paphs, if you had that awarded clone you would almost certainly have had to have gotten it from the person who had it awarded, as a division, and would have had to pay a small fortune for it. Paphs are not amenable to meristemming and therefore awarded clones are always in high demand and expensive.

I guess I should be more careful how I word my postings. Didn't mean that it was Maudiae 'Garnet Flame', only that it has some similarities, perhaps more than vinicolor.

But how do you get a clone in the first place? You have to use seeds. If so, you could get tons of small chids that are not of show quality, and probably make it to the market as noIDs? Or am I wrong? If I'm right, it could be its ugly sibling correctly Id'd...

Correct me if I'm wrong, I am here to expand my knowledge like any of you.

Also I thought vinicolor means uni-colored with no markings (spots included) like this Vinicolour
As I see markings, it is called flame. Like something between vinicolor and coloratum flower type?

You can get awarded Paphs from divisions of the original awarded plant. A selfing would yield plants that do not carry the award name.

A clone is NOT a seedling and seedlings can't carry the awards or clonal names from their parents.

A clone is a division of the original and genetically identical. In phals meristem cloning allows divisions at the celular level, this does not work well on Paphs (or most slippers) though and so divisions of the original (as Ron said) are the only real way of getting a plant with the same clonal name as another (the clonal name is the part of the name in quotes).

A seedling... even a seedling from two flowers on the same plant is NOT genetically identical to the parent and is NOT a clone of the parent. Therefore the clonal name of the parent can never be used for the seedlings from it, and neither can the awards for that clone be applied to the seedlings.

vinicolor means wine coloured and refers to the deep red colour like red wine.
