Question Una Mas NoID

Another one I am researching. Almost certainly a hybrid -- much showier than the natural orchids so may be easier for someone to suggest an ID direction.

Has bloomed several times recently, but blooms only last for about 48 hours.

Thanks.

Definitely a Sobralia but which one I don't know. The foliage and short-lived flowers are characteristic.

After a minor amount of research I agree that it is almost certainly a Sobralia. There are Sobralia varieties which occur naturally here in Guate, but I suspect this one is an imported hybrid. There is only one other individual plan of this type I have found on the property so far and I expect it was placed in its location -- not naturally occurring. I have not found an obvious exact match yet, but it is similar to a Sobralia macrantha which occurs naturally in the region.

Close enough for me for now.

Mil Gracias.

I'd go with Sobralia decora although there seems to be some variation if I go by the pictures.

Thumbs up Gracias

I thought an appropriate thank you for the ID help would be of course....an orchid pic!

This one is almost certainly an Epidendrum Nocturnum. These occur naturally here. Very nicely formed bloom on this one which just opened yesterday.

A number of individuals of these are sporting seed pods now...so there are more on the way.

Moved my Sobralia NoID to an area with a bit more light and it appears to approve of the choice -- new growth and two blooms today!
