I bought a new chid today at a local orchid show today. It's a cattleya and it's pretty and it had a name so I bought it. Now here's the thing that stumps me. Oh yeah, the orchid label lists the name as Blc. Tainan Gold 'Golden Oriole'. There were no awards listed on the tag and the cross wasn't either. So when I got my new baby home I did an internet search to find out more about the cross parents. Now this is where it gets confusing...
The parents for 'Golden Oriole' are listed as (Blc. Toshie Aoki x Blc Waianae Princess) and I found 2 awards listed for this plant, an AM/AOS and AM/OSROC. My tag does not reflect either award...why?
Now, along my search I kept coming across a different Blc. Tainan Gold...a 'Golden Sparrow'. This hybrid lists the same parents as the 'Golden Oriole'.
Then I bumped into a site that listed my plant as an Rlc. Tainan Gold 'Golden Oriole' with (Rlc. Toshie Aoki x Rlc. Waianae Princess) as parents.
I sort of understand the Blc. changing to an Rlc. but I don't understand how the same parents are listed for 2 different recognized hybrids.
I've primarily been a grower of noids, and this name business confuses me. Would someone be so kind as to help me figure this out. Much thanks in advance.
Oh, and here's her photo
