Blue Bird? Male
Default Blue Bird?

I bought this little guy 2 years ago. Foolishly, I let the ID tag slip away before I started keeping track of the names. I've been back to the greenhouse from which it was purchased and they have similar orchids labeled "Neostylis Lou Sneary 'Blue Bird'". What do you guys think? It has slowly grown leaves for the last 2 years - I bought it out of bloom and this is the first time it's spike for me (HOORAY!). If I can get it to bloom without loosing the buds, I'll post pics of the flowers - until then, what do you guys think? Blue Bird?

Thanks!

- Jason

I'm very interested to see the flowers on that plant. I have several vascostylis that I really like. They bloom often and some are fragrant. There's always a chance that yours will be fragrant also because of the rhynchostylis parent. Good job of growing and congratulations on the new spike. Please post pictures.

I don't have a clue but that sure is a cute, healthy looking plant.

It very well could be Neostylis Lou Sneary, the blooming time is corrrect but I wouldn't begin to guess at the specific clone without seeing pictures. There are too many different clones.

Blue Bird? Male
Default Mystery Solved!

I was digging through the very bottom of my orchid bin this weekend and... wouldn't you know it, I found a tag proving that this little guy is in fact a Neost. 'Lou Sneary' Bluebird. I've never bought any other Neostylis, so it has to be right. Then, yesterday, this little guy opened up and confirmed what I already knew to be true. If the flowers stay open for a while, I'll follow-up with a pic of all of them open together. I really don't know what to expect here as I've never seen this guy flower before. You can imagine my surprise to discover that it is fragrent! I might have to go out and get another Neost. to keep the bluebird company.

I have a tiny one in spike for the first time. I don't know if it is a meristem or not so I am anxious to see the flowers.

Neo. hybrids are great little plants and can bloom three times per year. I have about a dozen varieties and still looking for others. There is one crossed with Phal. equestris that I would love to get my hands on.

As promised, here are some follow up photos. This little guy took a ribbon at the MOS show table. My first one. Woot!
