Paph NOID
This came as a 'bonus' plant with an order that arrived today. Not sure what the reasoning was for sending a warm growing Paph with an order of cool growing Masdevallia... but, hey, its a free orchid! I'm not complaining...
I do have 5 small seedling Paphs that I couldn't resist some time ago at Ratcliffe Orchids. I figured if I could get them young, they might adapt to a cooler growing conditions and do okay. So far, none of them have died!! And all have put on at least one leaf in the past 6 months.
This one, I just hope I can keep alive!

A darker background shows the colours better:
I have little hope for a name, but if anyone can give me pointers as to what it might like based on its habit (multi-flower infloresence (sp?), mottled leaves, etc.) it would be helpful. I really don't know very much about Paphs. except that they like it warm...

You may have some luck locating your paph here
Orchid Photo Galleries - Paphiopedilum / Paph species and Hybrids.
or possibly something close to it's form and color.
It's a webpage full of juicy photos of species and hybrids (Brachy and Parvi, Complex and Antique, Multiflorals, "Novelty" and Misc., and Vinicolor, Coloratum, Maudiae, Peacocks, and other similar Hybrids)
Good luck

Thanks, Dorothy! I will have a look and see if I can maybe narrow it down. Great site! Thanks for the link.

What you have here is a species from subgenus Cochlopetalum (sequential bloomers) crossed with one from subgenus Parvisepalum (which have large, soft flowers and mottled leaves). These crosses are all exceptionally easy to grow and flower. They prefer light on the lower side of the spectrum (perhaps slightly brighter than for Phals), warm temperatures and constant moisture (but never wet). they don't require a rest period; to flower all they need is good light and a difference in day/night temps. Hope this helps.

That makes perfect sense, Joe - as this one has mottled leaves and multiple flowers.
Its the 'warm temperatures' that I'm most worried about!!
Our days don't get that warm...

Oh, don't worry about that - standard room temperature (20-25 C) will do fine. What I mean by warm is that they will tolerate 30 C + temps. Sorry I should have clarified that. If you grow Phals or Oncidiums, or pretty much any other common household orchid, you can grow this Paph.

I have a couple of Encyclia and a few Brassia, but mostly I have Masdevallia and related Pleurothallids. Decidedly cool!! 'Room temperature' in this house is more like 16-18C.
I have one place in the house that stays warmer - near the computers and that is 22C now (middle of summer, middle of the day) I can pretty much guarantee that this area will be about 4 degrees C warmer than anywhere else in the house. If I can solve the humidity requirements, this might be the place.
Thanks so much for the information! It is true, isn't it, that the plain leaved Paphs can tolerate cooler temps?

I agree with Joe. Don't worry to much and the tempts with paphs. They can grow in such a wide range from coolness to warmth. This is another reason why they're wonderful 'chids to grow.
I kept mine with good air circulation fairly moist in peatmoss, coarse rok mixture. A slight drying during winter, damp mix not wet mix. They are keep in clay pots, some under catt lighting and some in the upper phal type lighting.
Try not to let your paph dry out like a den or catt since they do not have any water storage bulbs.
Enjoy your new babie
