Default Id and Culture Info Needed on "Leafless" Orchid

Hello Again:

Its a rainy day here in Central Florida and I was spending time looking through the forums.

I hope Susanne B (cb977) won't be too upset with me but I stole one of her photos as it helps with the questions I am about to ask!

What orchid is this in Susanne's photo?

I have the same orchid, I think:

I have mounted it on this fir bark stick where it is in direct sun for 5-6 hours per day and gets water twice a week (or whenever it rains) and fertilizered weakly weekly:

It has bloom once, the first year I had it and has not again over the last 3 years.

There a better way to handle its culture needs?

Any info and advice is appreciated!

Susanne B (cb977) - thanks for the "lend"!

Hi -
It's probably V. Miss Joaquim, but could be simple V. teres (MJ is a species hybrid, I think it is the official flower of Singapore).
I have mine wired to wire mesh, in full sun, hosed off at least once a day. No pot, no mount, no fillers. It can take as much sun as you can supply.
Pretty nice plant in bloom; they bloom almost continuously with plenty of sun.
Regards - Nancy

I believe that that plant is the same as this one:

It was identified by Mahon as Papilionanthe teres. I took a picture of it when I was in St. Lucia this winter.

Yes, i believe also it's a Papiolionanthe teres. I have this plant, and it's used in Thailand to do hedge of flowers. it's an orchids who lives in full sun, and need a lot of humidity, and a heat around 30º.

Hi - The reason I believe that the plant in Susanne's photo is Vanda (or Papilionanthe, they are the same) Miss Joaquim is the differences in the flower shape and lip (as well as the more vibrant color). Miss Joaquim is a very old hybrid of Vanda teres, hybridized for exactly those traits. A photo of my Miss Joaquim flowers attached.
In any case, since your plant is not in bloom, it could be any of the terete-leaved Vandas/Papilionanthes. I think there are a half-dozen or so.
Regards - Nancy

Actually, the second picture down is my plant in bloom - the only times its done that since I got it.

Nancy - I'm leaning your way as the colors and lip do look a little different from the others pictured - more color in the body and less gold in the lip area.

I actually saw this growing in my parent's neighbors yard in Florida last week while I was down there. Took some candid photos, Idenitical to the above. And compared it with one I found at the AOS headquarters and concluded that it must be Vanda Miss Joaquim.
