Hey Everyone,

Some time ago I got this decidous Lycaste from ebay with a fantasy name and photo (still it was not expensive so it's fine). The flowers have an apricot scent, but not very strong. Does anyone have a name for me? I have no idea, not even if it's a species or a hybrid. Grows well with me in a warm room.

Thanks for any hints!

Cheers,

Michael

Michael,

What do you mean by fantasy name? Do you mean that it had the word fantasy in the name of the Lycaste? I believe it's a hybrid and the only Lycaste hybrids that I can find so far with the word fantasy in the name are Lyc Pink Fantasy and Lyc Lime Fantasy.

Hi Glengary,

By the "fantasy name" I meant the seller invented a name that is neither the true name nor an existing name of a hybrid. This seller sometimes does that to make his plants more interesting, or maybe because he doesn't know the proper names - I don't know.
So basically I have no idea which one it might be, and I guess identification of Lycaste hybrids will be a difficult thing.....

Let's start with what the seller said the name was. We'll look from there.

Well, he claimed the name was Lycaste Yellow River. I found absolutely nothing about this hybrid and don't think it exists. Had the same problem before, when he said a hybrid was called "Wyld Wong", but when it flowered it was L. Lucianii.

I really don't know how accurate this would be, but perhaps it's Lycaste Jack Hort.

Maybe others can offer some insight. If not then you may have to be content with the title Lycaste (noid).
