Default Bought this today as a "cattleya alliance" can you help ID?

Hello all

I went to the local orchid greenhouse today and bought this cutey of an orchid. The person running the greenhouse stated it was a "cattleya alliance" and it would need lots of light from a south window.

It's not in the greatest of shape but I love the color and the shape of the flower. Can anyone help me I.D this orchid?

I thought it was a dendrobium at first because it appears to have what I would call canes but it's leaves are more like an epi cattleya.

Any chance it could be a sophronitis?

As you can see, the small spike is approx. 1.5cm long.

In the mean time, I plan on caring for it by the growers instructions and with a repot right away!

Cheers and Blessings

Maybe Cattleya aurantiaca or a cross. Tough to say, pics are a bit grainy, so it's tough to tell.

I'd go for a pure Guarianthe aurantiaca (syn Cattleya aurantiaca).

I would go for G. aurantiaca. Maybe you could take a close up of the flower?
Zxyqu, it hard to say not because the photos are grainy but because they are out of focus! Pribably the camera does not focus very close.

Anyway to me looks like an hybrid. Maybe some Brassavola or bl. Richard Muller in it?

Cattleya aurantiaca - Cattleya Source

my first thought was aurantiaca or hybrid of, too - could be an intergeneric hybrid, especially since the seller only identified it as "Cattleya alliance"

I'm sure that it has aurantiaca as a parent, as my epicat did.

It is highly unlikely that it is the species without a name tag. Any grower would have it well tagged and sold at a premium.

Ctt. Trick or Treat were in bloom here last month and it is common, but there are ten others that look the same.

The Ctt. is the new classification for this group - Cattlianthae --- Cattleya x Guarianthe

The Laelia was reclassified as a Cattleya and aurantiaca was moved to a new family Guarianthe

Gur. aurantiaca
