Question 2 new addi(c)tions. Odontocidium?? Brassidium??

Hello all,

Recently I bought 2 new orchids. But as always with these intergeneric hybrid orchids you can't depend on the labels.

First one is this:

At the label it is written "Cambria Tiger Plenty". It is not fragrant. From searching on the iNet I think it must be an Odontocidium 'Tiger' NoID.

The second one is this:

At the label it is written "Brassia Tessa". It is fragrant. From searching on the iNet I think it must be a Brassidium but don't have any other clues.

p.s.: The colors of the photos are representing exactly the color of the flowers.

Any idea anyone?

I'm afraid I can't really help.

But the name you found for the first contains NoID which indicates it's not a confirmed name... NoID just means No ID. It could be someone's made up name and I can't find any other details of Odontocidium Tiger

The second looks to me like it could be either Brassia or Brassidium or something similar.

Yes, I slowly learn that NoIDs are...NoIDs and that I can't do something about it.
:/

Thanks Rosie.

Ah, now that's a Bratonia Tessa and does seem to look like it could be the same thing.

As tags can often have a genus which is almost right, that could easily be the same thing.

unfortunately in my country most orchids if not all are sold as noids. thus the obvious such as phalenopsis and dendrobium will have so written on its tag otherwise all the others will be named cambria.what do i get from cambria? is it just a trademark or does refer to the orchid genus?

Cambria is just a commonly used name in trade, it's not a real genus, it's not a trademark either (which would restrict it to one company) just something commonly used for all oncidium intergenerics.

All you can really get from Cambria is that it is somewhere in the Oncidium/Odontoglossum alliance.

thanks Rosie for your prompt response, you managed to clear some misconceptions for me.
in reality i really wish to take part in your project but the noid problem stops me from getting the right orchid
