Default I am almost sure the name for my NoID is Dtps. Leopard Prince 全ogo F1138'

I was just wondering about NoIDs.

I understand the hesitations for giving names to a NoID, especially for phals. However, what if I am certain of a name even though the plant came with no label?

This is my orchid (or at least what it looked like when I bought it):

This phal has rather unique pattern and I haven't seen any other phals with those markings other than Dtps. Leopard Prince 全ogo F1138'

There is a bit of confusion on the name so I looked up "SOGO Team Co" and they name it Dtps. Leopard Prince 全ogo F1138' as evident in this PDF:

http://www.sogo-orchids.com.tw/news/...ow%20APOC8.pdf

So, my question is, should I still be careful about the name? Or can I confidently declare my phal "F-1138"?

I have a picture from a recent show of a different cross that looks identical to this. I say that not because I think it's one or another of these crosses, but by way of emphasizing once again that it is impossible to tell what plant a Noid Phal is even if one finds a plant that looks exactly like the Noid. Please read the thread "Why a Noid is a Noid."

I should add that there are other clones of Leopard Prince that look completely different and this is what makes it impossible to identify hybrids with certainty if they have lost their tags.

I agree, there is no way to be certain that it is indeed the correct name of the plant. Just because you can't find something similar looking doesn't mean that they don't exist.

But use that name if you want, but just remember that a Noid is a Noid, unless you get confirmation from an official source ( eg, the producer)

Very very beautiful Phal by the way!

Thank you, I do really like this phal.

I was hopeful this plant can be named, but I guess I will have to come up with a name for it myself. Maybe I will call it "Mr. Pink"

Thank you for your replies. Being new to orchids, I value your opinions and suggestions.

You don't have to give it a completely different name. A lot of people will name their Noids whatever the plant happens to look like, but leave the name Noid somewhere on the label. That way you remember that it's a Noid, and even out of bloom it's easy for you to remember what it's supposed to look like.

So you could label yours : Dtps. NOID Leopard Prince 全ogo F1138'

LOL, I think a lot of us are like that! I have an Aerangis in bud and every day I can't wait to get home to see how much fatter the buds are. I'm also guilty of checking out my favorite online vendors and ebay sellers at least once a week while I'm work. That reminds me, today is march 1st so many will have updated their catalogues!

So... The scientist in me couldn't rest... I bought another orchid at Costco and realized it had same ceramic pot and "Rocket Farms" label as my NoID SOGO orchid. Their website indicated that they buy orchids from SOGO Orchids. So I emailed the picture to Rocket Farms and they confirmed that this is indeed SOGO F-1138!

I couldn't be happier.
